IRONMAN 70.3 Boulder 2022 & Leadville, Colorado
Hello. It’s Tyler and Mimi Ford, with Inspire To Go making memories one adventure at a time!
We are off for another adventure. This adventure takes us to Leadville, Colorado for a couple of days. We’re going to be staying at Sugar Loafin Campground. It’s one of our favorite little getaways, get out of the Arizona heat.
And then we’re off to…Boulder. We’re going to do an Ironman 70.3. We’ve trained all summer long for it so it should be a good event.
We boondocked in the parking lot and we’re hoping we don’t get kicked out of here. A couple of people did the same. We had a beautiful sunset.
We decided to do Ironman 70.3 Boulder… as a last-minute trip. We wanted to get out of the Tucson heat. Mimi’s doing Ironman World Championships in Kona, Hawaii 2022, so we thought it would be a good little tune-up. Plus we wanted to hang out in Leadville, CO for a couple of days to get out of the Arizona heat.
Leadville, CO is one of my happy places. We’ve been going there for about 15 years and we just love it. If you’ve never been to Leadville, I would encourage you to check it out. It’s a different place. It’s one of the prettiest places that we visit.
Leadville, CO is surrounded by Fourteeners, so there’s great hiking. There are awesome views. There’s really good fishing. There’s standup paddle boarding, and mountain biking, and more…
But the big draw for us is the Leadville Race Series, whether it’s mountain biking, the Leadville 100 bike, the Leadville 100 Run, or even Leadman, which we’ve done. It’s a place that we love to go.
We love to stay at the Sugar Loafin Campground, which is another awesome place. If you got a family and you want a good little getaway, it’s the place to be.
And it takes you back in time. It makes you feel like you’re 50 years ago. It’s just so slow and laid back and it’s just one of our favorite places to go.
Leadville, CO an old mining town that was revitalized due to the Leadville series. They started doing the run, which turned into the mountain bike race. And it’s just a huge draw in the summertime, where it draws a ton of people.
And being in Arizona when it’s 110 out, there are not many places in the US that you can go to wake up in the morning and see your breath. I mean, there’s literally frost on the windshield in the summertime. And it’s the highest incorporated city in the US. It’s 10,200 feet. And it’s just a spectacular place.
Ironman 70.3 Boulder last-minute sign-up for Tyler. Mimi, getting ready for Hawaii. She’s two and a half months out from Ironman Hawaii.
The goal for Mimi for Boulder 70.3 was to just go out and do her best. “I don’t really have a goal as far as placement. I would like to podium if I can. I don’t know what the competition will bring, but I just know that if I go out and do my best, I could probably podium if I do that.”
Heading to Colorado and Boulder 70.3 Ironman, was just an excuse to get out of Tucson. We’re always up for an adventure. We’re in our RV and we just… There’s nothing better than sleeping outside in the RV, being outdoors, and doing cool things.
Mimi got 3rd place in her age group with a time of 5:45:05.
